Fil Gashan
Fil Gashan lies in the very south of Flaming Deeps in Moria.
Challenge mode
Conditions
Don't kill more than 2 sentries!
The sentries are often sitting near big bells but can also be patrolling. If you kill more than 2 of these you fail the challenge. However, you can aggro them, let them ring the bell and still not fail, as long as you keep them alive. Take one for the team, and die to loose the aggro.
It is hence strongly suggested to get a puller who:
- knows his way around the instance
- doesn't mind the occasional death and repair bill
How can you move around without aggroing the sentries?
On first and second floor you find mini-bosses that you have to kill.
- Chief Guard on first floor
- Lieutenant on second floor
These mini-bosses drop an uniform that you can unwrap and equip. With it on you have 5 minutes where you look like an orc. This allows you to move through the place more or less undetected as long as you keep moving. Don't let them get a good look at you and don't move together. Pass one by one and you should be safe.
First floor
When you enter the instance you find a sentry sitting beside an alarm bell. Have a minstrel reduce his aggro range by using Song of Distraction. Then pull the mobs behind him. Among them will be a chief guard which will give you your first uniform. Give it to the one guiding you throught the instance.
Unwrapped uniforms are tradable!
Bring your group past the first sentry by jumping on the stairs to either side of the entrance.
Park your fellowship on the left side of the corridor out of line of sight. Use your uniform to get close. You will have a crossroads ahead of you. Watch out for the sentry patrolling to the left. Once the sentry has moved away you can pull the mobs.
Once those mobs are down scout around a bit. Clear the left and right side of the crossroads. The two sentries only patrol the corridors, not the rooms, so you have to time your moves to enter rooms whilst out of aggro from sentries. If you time it wrong you have to die or use any aggro loosing skill that you might have (i. e. Hobbit Silence or Hide in Plain Sight).
Once you have 6 uniforms, everybody equips it and moves towards the last corridor, the one in front of the original crossroads.
This is the mess and it's filled with orcs. Move, one by one, to the right side into a small corner, empty of orcs, in the north east of the room. Once there, send someone just out of the corner and the first boss will spawn, sending all the orcs elsewhere in the process.
Boss 1: Vrarz the Cook
You have to fight roughly 6-9 Moria Soldiers before you can have a go at the boss, Vrarz the Cook. He's got a frying-pan so watch out. :P
Once only 2 or 3 of the adds are left they become inactive and the boss joins the fight. He's got 70 000 morale but no really bad tricks. It's a plan tank and spank fight. You need to cure wounds and watch for a stun. Clobber is appreciated.
At some point, adds joins the fight again. Kill them and then resume on the boss.
Once he is down, enjoy the loot (remind everyone to loot the chest for marks) and take a (non-mandatory) bio break.
Second Floor
This is definitely the trickiest floor.
The first thing you have to do is killing your first sentry. It's all scripted and can't be avoiced. Move close to the sentry and the script begins. A Moria Lieutenant tells the Sentry that there are intruders around, possibly wearing chief guard uniforms. He's ordered not to let anyone pass. Bummer!
Well, all you can do is moving even closer to the Sentry after the script has finished. He'll sound the alarm and start one of the toughest pulls in the instance. Having some crowd control is very useful here.
The adds
- Sentry - 16k
- 2 x Skirmishers - 8k
- 3-4 x Soldiers - 8k
- Lieutenant - 58k
As a nice cherry on the cake, the lieutenant will, at regular intervals, shout "Prepare the Warband Maneuver" and hit one of you with the dark equivalent of the Fellowship Maneuver. Try to interrupt as much as can.
Moving back to the mess might be a good idea here.
Save the Lieutenant to last and kill everything else as fast as possible and you should be fine.
You should now have your first Lieutenant uniform. The old ones are useless by now, if you haven't figured that already. Send someone with the uniform on up the stairs and pull the mobs down. There is a sentry patroling back and forth, so avoid him. Check doors and corridors and try not to bring too much with you at once. When you find something to kill run down the stairs to your friends.
This is the point where you kill your second Sentry. You can avoid it but it's difficult and not necessary.
Remember NOT to kill any more sentries after this one!
On this floor you have a corridor on each side. Clear the mobs above the mess and open the door. In here two sentries are patroling, one at each side. Avoid them.
Put the uniform back on and run in and bring out all mobs that you find. Be careful not to pull too close to the sentries. In the rooms you have lieutenants and chests. Both gives you uniforms.
Watch out for boss number two that you find behind the door to the right on the left side!
Once you have 4 uniforms you can start planning the boss-fight.
Boss 2: Commander Greb
Make sure you don't pull the patroling sentry when running to the boss fight!
The fight is divided into three phases.
Commander Greb sends his two lieutenants to close the doors. They will stay there watching for the first two phases.
In phase 1 it's all about tanking and spanking the commander. He can throw a poison DoT so make sure you have means to cure poison. He can also give a flaming wound that you also need to cure.
When Greb is down to around 50 k morale phase 2 starts. This time the boss has a twist. All melee damage is reflected off the boss back onto whoever did the damage. It's a buff that lasts for 30 seconds. Kite if you're melee and let ranged and tactical do the damage.
Around 25 k morale the lieutenants joins the fight to help out. Root them if you can and burn Greb down as fast as you can. You might want someone to off-tank the lieutenants to make sure they stay away from your healers. Now and then they hit you with a warband-maneuver. It hurts real bad so interrupt if you can. Once Greb is down the doors open. Kill the lieutenants.
Stay away from the open doors so that you don't accidentally pull the sentry!
In the chests you find a key and uniforms. You should have six of those now. Run back to the stairs and up to the third floor.
Third floor
There is a door with two orcs in front of it. Kill the orcs and open the door. The room is filled with mobs but do NOT kill any of these. Simply put on your uniforms and run, one by one, straight ahead until you reach the third boss.
Place yourselves in the left corner and prepare the fight.
Boss 3: General Talug
This fight also has 3 phases. It is a rather difficult fight with complex mechanics so make sure you prepare properly.
General Talug has 2 adds, a fire-fist and a fang-caster. You'll have to use these in different ways during the fight.
During phase 1 Talug is basically invulnerable. Fortunately he is really slow and easy to kite. Let someone off-tank the fang-caster and try to keep him in the center of the room. Now and then he'll bend down to set a trap. Make none of you step in it. Instead, drag Talug into it. When hit he'll get very weak and you can do damage. The window is short so all help with this. Keep doing this until the phase is over.
If you get hit by the fang-casters arrows and gets his nasty wound you can run into the pouring water to remove it!
Phase 2 is similar to phase 1 with the exception that the fire-fist also joins the fight. A trick here is to focus your DPS on him and pull him close to Talug. When the fire-fist dies he hits Talug with some oil that you can set on fire with fire skills or weapons. That way he gets a DoT that takes him down faster. You'll also keep dragging him into traps.
Killing the adds will spawn new ones!
In phase 3 Talug drops his armor and becomes very easy to kill. It still might be wise to kite him though since he really hurts in melee. Bring him down as fast as possible and then kill the adds.
Make sure you remove any wounds that Talug throws around!
That's it! If all went well you got some nice loot and had a lot of fun in the process.
